Glimpse of a past scars our life

when ideas are just ideas

February 27, 2010

Summertime is here again. Everyone can feel it. With the temperatures rising and clouds seem to be rare, sure summer once again is here. With the scorching heat and dry feel in your skin, one can imagines lying by a bed in the beach or dipping themselves in cool pool water. Others may choose to stay at home and have a good siesta. Some go to mall to get the benefit of air conditioning. Well everyone seems to have an idea of escaping the heat from the sun.

While others seem to be enjoying the summertime by relaxation, others are just merely irritated. Why? First, with the hot sun shining through the land it evaporates the water reservoirs across the country. Meaning, less power generation and limited amount of water supply for domestic, industrial and agricultural use. Who wants power interruption by the way and water being rationed instead of a free flow from your own faucets at home.  With the water being scarce, the government has come up with a plan. Get water from Laguna lake. Well with a thousand meter square area i think it can supply at the water needs in the metro and some irrigation for farms also. Well there is a big poster in our laboratory about a plan on how to clean and use water from the lake. It’s collecting some dust there, so it’s been decades i think that the option of getting water from the lake was in plan. Of course no one ever made it from plan to a facility. Now they came up with that idea? Yey! Of course not now that the Laguna Lake is one of the biggest septic tank in the world. Imagine drinking water that came from a septic tank? It’s like drinking your own pee and poo. Ewww!!

So as you stay home and relax or watch TV, there is a power interruption lasting about 2-3 hours. Whoa! Who can bear staying in your room for 2-3 hours without a cool air coming from a fan or an air conditioner? But hey we can tap that light from the sun and turn it into electricity. Of course it is too expensive to build a solar power facility. Expensive in a way that they can’t afford a small solar power facility but they can afford a nationwide broadband deal. Silly. Who can run a computer without electricity from a socket by the way? Silly again.

Poor agriculture industry being struck by the phenomena. Well if we have better forecasting equipment maybe we can warn them not to plant early this year because a massive heat will soon come. They also came up with the idea of cloud seeding; well there aren’t clouds in the sky to be seeded. Speaking of massive drought, a year has not passed since we experienced flooding throughout the rest of the country. Well the water that we used to hate is the water that we used to find right now. We can say that you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sill water.

Hope we don’t  came to a point where “ubos-ubos biyaya, mamaya nakatunganga” and thinking about ideas that are just ideas.

Philippines=FAIL

February 23, 2010

As i finished up some plates for my project, I opened the television to ease the boredom of just looking through lines and details. I hope I can catch the midnight news (because i missed the evening news lately). So far into drawing stuffs, I am listening into the voices and random songs generated by the advertisements of anything. From a simple shampoo commercial to anything under the sun  including political ads.

So as you do some works, your mind begins to wonder about random thoughts generated by what you hear. Then one political ad flashes up. “If I want to get richer, I would go back to my business”. Simple isn’t it? But then you will begin to wonder. If you really want to help people, why run for a political seat? There are so many ways to help your fellow country men than just running into political seat. Well we know that you own a lot of subdivisions around the metro. Why don’t you just give some free units to people who live along riversides, railroads and some vacant spots. He did also mention that he wants to help his countrymen by easing their poverty. Well you don’t need to be a political figure to give jobs to a jobless, not only if you just want the whole country to know that you gave jobs by showing it to them via a television. I think its even better if you do the job without anyone knowing what you did. Unsung heroes are greater than published ones. Sometimes even if you want to do something better, others can’t help to think that you do something fishy.

After finishing a page, I began to work on another (there are tons of work lol). So another political advertisement flashed up. “He will end corruption”. I say “wtf!”. Its been decades, even centuries that corruption is a big issue in government. They just say they will end corruption in government if they were to be elected. But as soon as they sit on the throne, they are just blind mice who doesn’t even know what corruption is. To tell you the truth corruption is something that cannot be just ended with a single man, even if he is the king of the world. Why? For example take this situation:
A man needs a car registration, so he went to the Land Transportation Office. As soon as he enters the vicinity, another man approaches him and offered him a deal. For a few amount of money, he will get your car registration without even falling into a never ending line. Of course who doesn’t want a good sit under the shade of the trees while your papers are being processed? Where’s corruption? It starts when the so called “fixer” enter the office and ask a collegiate to work on the documents he is holding. So he gave something to the collegiate (whatever term that is). So for the collegiate to work on the documents fast and easy, he will give something to his supervisor so that he will not be mad if he works according to the rule. So on and so forth.
So, corruption cannot be ended. It is like a virus that spreads to everyone even if he is just a plain citizen. It is a product of greed and everything bad. Even if you sit on the top, you cannot spot a particular grain of sand along the beach. Even if you make a law, punishing every people that will be caught, there is still a time before the justice has been served and corruption is still on the run.
There are also some who say they will change the education system in the country. They will focus on education system. Well, I’ve been studying for 14 years and I never see a change. Prices of the books are always high (that’s why they resort to photocopying of books along a university belt), teacher’s salary rate increase is slower than oil price hike. Those who enter public school teacher are like entering 40 years of community service. So the good one’s left the country become a social worker, because their salary is greater than a public school teacher. What is 15,000 compared to 50,000? Even a grade 3 student knows it.
So with all these political ads spamming up or TV screen, have they (politicians) ever wonder who they are fooling with? Maybe some poor citizens who hope they will given a grace. Well in that case there are too many poor to be given, so lucky if your one of them. They (politicians again) spend millions to advert their silly political jingles. 100 million peso can buy about 100,000 good books (if 1 book=1000) that’s a lot of books. Imagine 100,000 literate compared to about 20 million people who doesn’t even saw a book in their lifetime? If they just buy books for those who can’t afford even a daily newspaper, we can say they truly helped the country than just posting their silly pictures on TVs while watching a good evening news. And with the cost of that money, where will they get it? In people’s tax? Well its better if they bought some books and when they win they get it from the taxes. Win=win situation right?

To sum up all the rants above….. Politics in Philippines=F.A.I.L!

Define: Happiness

February 20, 2010

What is happiness? Some say hapinness is obtained if your contended with something. Happiness is a pleasure that bring good thoughts into your mind. It is the opposite of sadness. And everyone wants to be happy.

A wikipedia defines happinness:  Happiness is a state of mind or feeling characterized by contentment, love, satisfaction, pleasure, or joy.  A variety of philosophical, religious, psychological and biological approaches have striven to define happiness and identify its sources.”

So whatever that means lets define the real true meaning of happiness. Let us look into a situatuion. One day a man walking down the street finds a 100 dollar bill. He quickly picks its and heads home. He said “i’m happy! I found a 100 dollar bill along the road”. He’s happy because he found a 100 dollar bill with a contentment of having it for free. He is so happy of what luck has brought him that day.

But in a case of another man. He has a sick child needing some medical treatment. One day due he bought a lottery ticket hoping he would win. So luck came in and he won the jackpot. But he’s not happy. First his child was sick and needed a great amount of money to be treatened. He only found out that the money that he won from the lottery was not enough.

Other says happiness is obtained by getting so much money. They say that these money are the key to happiness. I, myself thought of it that way. If i had money i will be happy. But it turns out it doesnt. There are certain things that you need to be happy. In whatever term that maybe.

So what is happiness? For me, happiness is only obtained if the person thinks it is happy for him. He maybe contented but not happy and happy but not contented.
