In mathematics, the easiest way to solve complicated problems is by analyzing and reducing them to simple terms. Like managing a government, the way to solve complicated problems are by finding a solutions to basic problems. I think this is what President Noynoy Aquino did.

The “Wang-Wang’s” Death

I am very much grateful on how President Aquino issued the problem about the “wang-wang” (sirens). Yes, He is a very good example of a leader. If he wants to issue a decree of something, he must be the first to use it or be an example to others. I still remember the time when I was still a student. I wake up early to attend my early classes. Try to analyze time wasted in rush hour and traffics. While your jeepney or FX is caught in a traffic, suddenly two motorcycles screaming down the road followed by a dark vehicle with a red plate or a single numbered plate passed by, and you wished you was the one riding in that dark vehicle. This is great. Let me see them wake up early and suffer the same consequences of a traffic jam. Well who cares if they are late for their appointments? so do i. Who cares if they have consecutive meetings? I do have too. Who cares if they didn’t wake up early and are too much late? Me too. Now it’s the time for the leveling of classes.

Add-ons

This morning while I take a train ride to Makati, a group of Americans hitch the same coach with me. At first I’m very much annoyed on how they talk, on how disturbing they are because they are too noisy compared to others among the coach. But this all perished when I’m about to leave the train. As I passed by them and said “excuse me” they are so much polite replying “oh, sorry” and let me pass by and even asking his companion to make a way for us. Kudos to those.

R.I.P.stick

No doubt summer time is here already. Everyone had their own way of spending summer. From going to beaches and resort to enjoy the cooling water, camping and hiking, spending the whole month in provinces with their relatives or just simply staying at home and do everything.

We can notice a lot of students or children playing out in the streets, especially here at the metro. A common view in all the alleys and streets are children riding their ripsticks.  What is a ripstick? From Wikipedia it is described as “A caster board is a two-wheeled, human-propelled vehicle that is closely related to the skateboard and the snakeboard. Two narrow platforms known as “decks” are adjoined by a rubber or aluminum coated metal beam that houses a strong spring. Each truck has one wheel that is connected to the board in a way that each wheel can rotate independently, like the wheels on a shopping trolley. Both wheels are mounted on slants that measure around 30° in angle, facing away from the front of the board.”

So what is the problem with riding or playing it? Well as we may notice, most of the “ripstickers” (I call it XD) run along major roads in the metro. With the automobiles enjoying the semi-empty road, no wonder these ripstickers cheat death. Imagine a child (or even adult) riding a ripstick then suddenly a car zooms and hit him from behind. Death!

It may be fun to ride these but If you are playing with death nothing’s fun. So the solution ban these thing in major roads, it not a big issue if they play it at park or at safe alleys where no automobiles run by. Enjoying the summer time is fun, as long as you enjoy it safely.

Oh by the way, I might try to ride one someday.

Best Defense: Offense

I remember when my cousins and I used to play Starcraft Broodwar. I used to create a lot of turrets around my base so that the enemies attacking will die. As turret defense and some ground defense are being attacked, I replaced them so my defensive capability will increase. With resources at base running low I decided to expand my area of control. So I created offensive troops. But sadly all my offensive troops are beaten. The end games with me losing to five computer opponents. So I asked my cousin why I lost. He said that I have too many defensive units around my base and I should remember that “the best defense is an offence”.

Yesterday I watched Pacquiao and Clotey fight (or to say I watched the advertisements flooding the fighting event). After the fight Pacquiao wins. I had a bit of disappointment after the fight because I never seen “action” during the game. You know, exchanging blows with each other or something like that.  Never seen Clotey hits too much on Pacquiao. Clotey being the best Defensive fighter in boxing world, there’s no wonder in that. I admired Clotey because he’s never been knocked down by Pacman in twelve rounds. But winning in boxing is decided on who scores more if both remains standing after the fight not on how many blows you had block.

If Clotey wants to win another fight he should remember “the best defense is an offense”. This does not only applies to Clotey but to all fighters as well.

The "Kulangot" Bond is Ended

There is a challenge (challenge? Or whatever they call it) about the hands. The hand will be positioned in such a way that the middle finger is bended and will not move or rose during the challenge. The index finger is bonded using glue, the thumb with rugby, the pinkie with might bond (high strength glue) and the ring finger with kulangot (sticky mucus from the nose).
It is impossible for normal persons to raise the ring finger in such a way that it will not affect the middle finger or the pinkie. 

 Well “kulangot” fails.

conGRADUATION!

At last after 16 years of studying I finally reached the spot where most of us dream of reaching. It’s the time of the year where my fellow students take the final step in preparing for the real world. Graduation it is! We can almost see the line where we take a big leap from students to professionals and finally reach the spot of our goal. While most people think that graduating is the end of the road, in reality it is not. It’s just the start of that long journey where you will take without a guide behind you.

Thanks God for the prosperous day that you had given me. For guiding me through the pain and sorrows of studying. For telling me not to let go of those dying times. For giving me strength to stay up and to face another day with a smile in my face. For those barricades that you put in front of me to make me stronger.

Congratulations to all the graduating students this year! May we all be prosperous and face the real world with a chin up attitude.

Samsung J700 Problem

I bought a mobile phone in Greenhills last year (October I think). After browsing through all second hand phones at stall, my eyes stuck to one mobile phone. It’s a Samsung J700. After asking for the price which is 2,800 pesos (bargain at the look of the phone and a free 1 GB mini SD card), checking if the phone has defect or working and asking about the history of the phone, I bought it. Several months later the problem occurred. The phone displays that it has a full signal but you cannot send messages or call anyone. I went back to Greenhills to check if my phone can be fixed. Some said that it’s just phone software’s error. He reprogrammed it (I don’t know if he really did format it) and the problem still occurred, so the tech asked me if I want the phone to be looked to see the problem inside for a fee of 500 pesos (wtf?). I said no and tell him that I’ll come back tomorrow.

Anyone who has knowledge about fixing phone. Is it a flex problem or other than that? Cost?

Review: BPI Express Cash Card

Last week (February 25 to be exact) I went to BPI (Bank of the Philippine Islands) to get a card. I discovered that they offer prepaid credit card via MasterCard’s site (BDO doesn’t offer one thou, while in Security Bank I’m not sure). So to save some coins I went earlier than my usual class hour. Luckily I arrive 30 minutes before the banking hours. After some chit chats, submitting the requirements and paying off 150 pesos (card fee) I got my receipt. They said that it will just take 3-5 days (I heard a week too) before I could fetch my card. They give me a contact number for me to inquire if the card arrived. I went straight to school with a happy face and a hopeful feeling.

Monday (3^rd day after, 2^nd working day)

I have a good feeling that my card will arrive tomorrow. Well not an exciting day because I went with my girlfriend in Makati for her job interview. I still have the feeling that the next day will be the card day.

Tuesday (4^th day, 3^rd working day)

After my girlfriend left Manila, I went home and got a quick bath. Because I have a final examination at school I decided to pass by the bank to ask about the card. Still it hasn’t arrived yet.

Wednesday…

Still nothing

Thursday

Another Final examination day at school. After the exam I passed by the bank and asked again. Still the card hasn’t arrived. When I arrived home they call me and told me that there was a delay in the delivering of cards. They also said that the card will be available by Monday.

Friday

Hoping for a call… failed. No call from bank means no card for me.

Saturday

A very long day to be exact. I can’t wait for my card.

Sunday

Yeah today. Hopefully the card will be available tomorrow. I don’t want to wait another week.

Monday

I called and still no trace of card.

yesterday I called them again to ask if the card arrived. They said that tommorow it will come. So today (friday) with full of hope i called them (again) to ask if the card arrived. They said that they have the transmittal and just waiting for to to be delivered late in the afternoon (well i called past three o’clock in the afternoon, isnt that late already?) or Monday morning (i remember that guy there said that they dont have deliveries in morning). So what the hell is a BPI Express Cash? It is an express RANT that will express our head to a boiling point.

Conclusion: If your applying for a card at BPI, make sure that you apply about two weeks prior to the usage of the card. Express Cash doesn’t mean Express delivery of card. Maybe they should work on it. *two weeks not really it should be one month

MS Word 2007 Error Help

I used Microsoft Word when writing some articles. It becomes handy because it has a feature with detects if you have so many errors in spelling and if your poor in grammars. It is a good tool for beginners and intermediate alike.

But one day I encountered a problem with MS Word 2007. It doesn’t check if my spellings are wrong and same with the grammars. After checking some sites and even Microsoft’s own help site, I found out that still it haven’t change a bit. So this is my own solution if you encounter such a problem if you’re using Microsoft Word 2007 in Windows Vista platform.

1.       First open up your Control Panel and click Classic view then look for Regional and Language options.

2.       Click Keyboards and Languages tab then click Change Keyboards… button.

3.       In the Default input language choose English (United States) – US (or the language that you want to use)  in the drop down option and in the Installed Services select the services that you want to include in the list. You may want to add some other services such as your own language.

Maybe this will help if your Microsoft Word 2007 doesn’t check the words that you type or even the grammar.

This is convenient way of surfing the world wide web, without the hassle of going to computer stops and waiting in line from a lot of computer users. This is also cheaper compared to desktop computers if your primary purpose is surfing the web, checking social networking sites and chatting. It is also convenient for some business establishments checking on their accounts via web service.

It may be cheap and convenient but this kind of convenience comes up with a punch. Lets take it one by one.
-    First the speed: if your browsing the net and after fast reactions whether from downloading or uploading. Well it is not really 2mbps speed considering the location, strength of signal and the peak time.
-    10 for 30 minutes is 20/hr and electric bill. Well the average rate at computer shops is 15/hr with a promo of 50/4hrs.
-    May i remind you that this does not contain any storage device. Well storage is quite handy. From surfing the web to making documents.
-    Of course no Microsoft Word, Autocad, Dota lol!, and other applications that require a desktop or laptop.
-    What kind of TV are required btw? Once i used our TV for watching movies, connected it to my PC via the GPU and guess what. Maximum resolution is 800×600 and 31 hertz. I can’t barely see a icon’s image.
-    How about flash software required to play youtube videos or java needed for some sites to load?

Maybe convenient and inconvenient but for those who cant afford its a good alternatives for the freedom to connect with the web. I think it will attract students. Let’s see if it will hit Filipino’s taste to technology.

Are we ready?

With the Haitti and Chile earthquake causing a lot of damages not just into properties but also lives I begin to wonder, Is the Philippines ready for a massive earthquake.

During one of my class session in foundation engineering, we discussed about the earthquake that happened to Dagupan. My proffessor said it was like a warzone after the quake happened. Almost everything crumpled to ground. What was reaaly the cause? With a silty sand type soil the ground turned into a semi liquid behaviour, called “liquifaction”. Without a good foundation support some building had the first floor turned into basement. With only a building surviving the chaos (thanks to the pile supports) a general construction was called for future.

Most building in Manila are built without a plan. They are just merely a “rule of thumb” built by some carpenters with their construction knowledge. Ever heard of the thypoon that struck the metro? Most billboard are leveled becasue of poor construction method and the lack of knowledge about wind forces. Some old building are still occupied by some . Even with a visual inspection these buildings are not safe for residency. With the columns cracks and the slabs, no wonder a tiny shake will rupture this building causing a lot of casualties. They did some repairs, plastering cements to the cracks, but this wont help, as the building part acts a single unit.

Even if the building is properly calculated and planned, some are built below their respective design. Yay! Thanks to cheating in exchange for money. But who will risk their licenses anyway? Creepy.

This is a call to the industry. Build better buildings, a building that will be able to survive forces of nature. Even if it cost much higher than expected, lives of people using it are much expensive. We are being left behind by our neighboring countries. Like Taiwan, and others.  Inspect your house or the place where you live in and ask. Am i ready?

Define: Happiness

What is happiness? Some say hapinness is obtained if your contended with something. Happiness is a pleasure that bring good thoughts into your mind. It is the opposite of sadness. And everyone wants to be happy.

A wikipedia defines happinness:  “Happiness is a state of mind or feeling characterized by contentment, love, satisfaction, pleasure, or joy.  A variety of philosophical, religious, psychological and biological approaches have striven to define happiness and identify its sources.”

So whatever that means lets define the real true meaning of happiness. Let us look into a situatuion. One day a man walking down the street finds a 100 dollar bill. He quickly picks its and heads home. He said “i’m happy! I found a 100 dollar bill along the road”. He’s happy because he found a 100 dollar bill with a contentment of having it for free. He is so happy of what luck has brought him that day.

But in a case of another man. He has a sick child needing some medical treatment. One day due he bought a lottery ticket hoping he would win. So luck came in and he won the jackpot. But he’s not happy. First his child was sick and needed a great amount of money to be treatened. He only found out that the money that he won from the lottery was not enough.

Other says happiness is obtained by getting so much money. They say that these money are the key to happiness. I, myself thought of it that way. If i had money i will be happy. But it turns out it doesnt. There are certain things that you need to be happy. In whatever term that maybe.

So what is happiness? For me, happiness is only obtained if the person thinks it is happy for him. He maybe contented but not happy and happy but not contented.

How to install games on Samsung F400

             Some of you were wonderinghow to install games on samsung F400 phone. Different from ordinary phone where you just copy the .jad and .jar files this phone wont just accept this kind of installation. To help you with this i discovered a way to install it on your phone.

                First let’s start with the things you need.

a.       Usb cable – to connect your phone to your computer.

b.      PC – of course you cant install a game without it.

c.       Samsung F400 mobile phone.

d.      BitPim – you can download this here  . Dont worry it doesnt contain trojans or other malicous softwares (my norton 360 says).

e.      Qualcomm USB drivers – here. It also doesnt contain malicious files.

f.        .jar and .jad files – ex. Bejeweled.jar and bejeweled.jad. Incase you only have the .jar files you can search for .jad maker.

Now let’s get the ways  to install games.

First unpack the drivers to a folder like Desktop or everywhere within your PC but don’t install it. After unpacking the files, install BitPim. Then:

1.  Enter the following code into the phone:   *#0523#

2.  It will open up a message. Just press # until you find a menu with 9. Common, then choose these:

[9] common >> [6] USB Configuration >> [2] Qualcomm USB [*]

 Qualcomm USB Configured.

Please  Reconnect the Cable.

3.  Now put the USB cable in the phone and Pc.

~ Windows found a new hardware.

Install the hardware manual and chose the Qualcommdriver folder.

Now go to the Hardware manager by right clicking the My Computer icon in your desktop and choose Manage. Find the Device Manager then click the “+”  then choose Qualcomm.

Important: Verify the port number by right clicking the “qualcomm” then choose “properties”  then choose the “Modem tab”.

4. Open “BitPim” and configure the software for your Samsung F400.

On the “BitPim”. Find the “settings” icon. Its the one with the Screwdriver and Wrench drawing then click it. On the “Phone type” choose “Other CDMA phone”. On the “Com Port” key in the one that you find in step 3. If you dont remember it. You can browse for the port but make sure you choose the right one. And press “OK”

5. Start “BitPim”, go to the menu “View” and click “View Filesystem”. (a check icon will appear)

6. Click on “Filesystem” . A Folder will appear then open the folder by clicking the “+” icon.

A “retrieving..” message will appear.

7. Find the “Media” word and cick it. Now to  copy the games, create a new folder wihtin  the folder “games”. Simply right click the “Games” word the choose “create new folder”.  Then key in the name of the game you want to install. Click on the new folder and add the .jad files then the .jar file of the game that you want to install. You can only add one file at a time but you can install games as long as the phone memory is sufficient.

8. After copying the game files disconnect the USB cable from the phone.

9. Leave the Qualcomm menu and entering this code in your Samsung F400: *#6984125*#

You are now in the  “Admin setting” menu.

9a. Select the menu [4] Internals. You will be ask to key in the Master Key.

 (Master Key: *#9072641*#)

9b. Chose the menu [7] Storage settings

9c. Simply choose these: Update media database, Update Java DB and Create AX Dat File.

You can now leave the “Admin Settings”. Enjoy playing with your new games.

Sure living nowadays is getting harder. There are many proofs about it like our basic commodities being retailed. Like soy sauce at earlier time soy sauce was sold by bottles, sometimes these bottles after used up can be sold in junk shops for small incomes. Now they are replaced by plastic packages thus adding damage to environment.  The power of money to buy things becomes lesser and lesser.

                So they come up with a trend to lessen daily expenses. One of these is making a “prepaid” electricity payment. It’s like installing a prepaid meter and having a card worth of a limited amount. Will it really lessen expenses? Having the power to control the electricity consumption by controlling the amount you are paying.

                Let’s get with these facts.

1.       If an emergency occurred, like you need to plug that component to call someone and luckily your electric balance is at low; add the fact of availability of the load.  They say loads will be available just like cell phone loads, network problems… isn’t that bad?

2.       They say it will be faster because you don’t have to line up to payment stations just to pay your bills. Well those who line up for the payments are “due payers” who just pays in due time. Why not make your payment earlier?

3.       “We can control our electric bill because its prepaid”. Even if its post-paid or prepaid you can control it by using your appliances wisely. Turning off and unplugging appliances will save.

4.       Of course add the additional baggage’s of add-ons expenses that will be charged. No one can run away from it.

5.       And other negative factors that you can add.

Of course it is just an opinion about the so called “prepaid” electricity. The fact that saving nowadays is a part of daily lifestyle. It is the trend. So to go for that prepaid or stay as you were, the best way to save is by using it wisely

Fishballs

I did an extensive research about this type of fish called fishball. And these are the results.

-Fishballs do not have a bone, fins or scales.

-They don’t swim in water rather they prefer hot cooking oil for a period of time

-They are captured using a device called a “barbeque stick”. These sticks are crafted with high precision tools called “bolo” and made from a rare material called “bamboo”.

-Fishballs also swim in a secret fluid called “sarsa”. These so called “sarsa” come in two varieties. The once called “matamis” and other called “maanghang”. “Matamis” refers to sweet while “maanghang” is spicy”.  “Matamis” and “maanghang” are the same except the later have a secret ingredient called “sili”.

-Fishballs are round in shape and usually flat. When they are emerged or swimming in hot cooking oil they increase in size.

-fishballs are cultured by fishball manufacturer and are sold in streets. Fishball sellers are called “manong” for men and “manang” for women.

-not only this fishballs are sold, sometimes chicken balls and other varieties are sold.

Cracked up

In the last past few days, I surfed the web for some tutorials about program cracking, reverse engineering and about that hacking stuff. I became frustrated about a simple (well not really simple) kiddie game that my big sister wants to play. I tried downloading the program, installing it only to find they have change the way to activate the product. Acted like a super-genius-ultimate-wanna-be-cracker I downloaded some decompilers and make my way into reverse engineering some application. A little pushes here, click over there, copy some binary data’s, and change some 0000 to 0001 and just stumbling upon nothing (lol). I give up the hands to those who really do it. To crackers ten hand salute!

So now I’m not yet a cracker. So I put it in this way. I’m a frustrated cracker that uses applications created by other crackers. (Slipped a cracker into my mouth). Even finding the right program to do the job is so annoying. Hmm…  But I consider myself more advanced than regular computer user. Because I think I can predict if the program will work or not. Ha-ha!

So far for the hacking and cracking stuffs, for now I need to hook on p2p network and get some applications to burn up.

Don’t worry I’m not profiting from it. But if I do have a chance why not? Lol.

temperature monitoring

Houston, we got a problem. This is not an old case scenario where the rocket was malfunctioning. But it may happen to you, not just Houston but several messages or your computer is running like fluctuations in a wave.

So you scanned, cleaned up, tweak here and there but the problem is still there. So you go to the next part and a little complicated. Cleaning up your system. Flush out dust here and there, clean all the way. Then you noticed something. Your old hardware is not as good as it looks.

This can be problem common to every computer system. So we go back to the “prevention is better than cure”.

One way is monitoring your systems temperature, like CPU and graphic card. This may be unnoticed but you still can or simply work this one out.
